Alberto Del Rio reportedly stabbed outside restaurant
Former WWE heavyweight champion Alberto Del Rio was reportedly stabbed outside a restaurant in Mexico over the weekend.
After Del Rio, whose real name is Alberto Rodriguez, no-showed an event for Mexican wrestling organization AAA, his representative posted a statement on Instagram revealing that the wrestler was assaulted by a man with a knife.
“Mr. Rodriguez (“Alberto El Patron”) shortly after eating a meal before his flight was assaulted by a criminal with a knife outside the restaurant,” the statement read. “Mr. Rodriguez suffered multiple lacerations on his arm and other parts of his body defending against thecriminal as Police were called by witnesses. Mr. Rodriguez received medical attention and went back to the Police Department and was unable to make his flight. Mr. Rodriguez has spoken with the ownership of Lucha Libre AAA World Wide and given them documentation of the incident. Mr. Rodriguez greatly regrets not being there yesterday for his fans in Mexico and promises to everyone he will make this up as soon as possible. Despite the graphic lacerations Mr. Rodriguez will not miss any of his shows for the remainder of the year and is ready to compete this weekend in the UK.”
Some graphic photos showed that Del Rio suffered wounds to his head and arm. You can see the photos below, but beware they may be disturbing:
Del Rio was fired by the WWE two years ago over what was apparently an altercation with a social media manager over a racist joke. He has since wrestled primarily in AAA as well as several other organizations.
Here’s hoping Del Rio has a speedy recovery.
