Bryce Harper reportedly has no interest in signing short-term deal

Bryce Harper

The San Francisco Giants may be legitimate suitors to sign Bryce Harper, but they are going to have to offer the same type of long-term contract as any other team if they want to get a deal done.

A report on Monday claimed the Giants have no interest in offering Harper anything close to the 10-year, $300 million deal he has been seeking but might be willing to offer him a “lucrative short-term deal.” According to Jon Heyman of Fancred, Harper is giving no consideration to signing such a contract.

Harper is a Scott Boras client, so that is hardly a surprise. Boras clients almost always sign with the highest bidder that offers the most long-term security, and the 26-year-old Harper wants the same.

While there may be reason to believe Harper wants to play for the Giants, it’s highly unlikely that he will offer any team a discount.
