Dodgers claim record for tickets sold on Mexican Heritage Day

Los Angeles Dodgers stadium

The Los Angeles Dodgers are apparently claiming a record for the most tickets sold for a special event.

Wednesday’s home game against the Atlanta Braves will be Mexican Heritage Day. According to the Los Angeles Times’ Bill Shaikin, the Dodgers say they have sold over 20,000 group tickets specifically for this event. That’s outside of the normal season tickets, mini-plans and individual tickets sold for the game.

Do the Dodgers know for certain this is a record? Probably not, but 20,000 group tickets is greater than the average attendance for 12 teams this season, putting things in perspective.

The Dodgers lead MLB in attendance this season by a large margin with an average for 47,240 fans per home game. The heritage event seems to be appealing to the large Mexican population in the Los Angeles area.
