Nick Castellanos had vulgar message for umpire after violation

Nick Castellanos talks with an umpire

Nick Castellanos was called for a pitch timer violation on Wednesday night, and the Philadelphia Phillies veteran clearly felt it should have been avoided.

Castellanos came to the plate in the top of the 7th inning of the Phillies’ 8-6 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. He went down 0-1 in the count without even facing a pitch, as home plate umpire Derek Thomas called a violation when Castellanos did not get into the batter’s box quickly enough.

Castellanos then had some words for Thomas. The outfielder seemed to believe Thomas should have given a warning. Castellanos could be heard telling the umpire, “out of respect for somebody who’s been in the league over 10 years, you gotta f—ing speak up, brother.”

You can see the video, but beware that it contains an F-bomb:

MLB rules state that the batter has to be inside the box with no fewer than 8 seconds remaining on the pitch timer.

The pitch timer violation was not costly, as Castellanos worked a walk. He was also fortunate that Thomas did not take offense to being ripped, though the audio of the entire exchange was not clear.

Castellanos has been known to drop an F-bomb from time to time, but the last one we heard from him was a lot funnier.
