Ben Simmons is quickly assimiliating to life with the Sacramento Kings.
The new Kings forward Simmons spoke with reporters at training camp on Thursday. At one point during his availability, Simmons was asked about his relationship with his new teammates.
Simmons then went on to mention Kings guard Zach LaVine in particular. “Zach isn’t a prick,” joked Simmons, per James Ham of ESPN 1320 in Sacramento.
The three-time NBA All-Star Simmons was referring to the scandal that occurred at Kings’ media day earlier this week. In between two of the day’s press conferences, a trio of Sacramento reporters were caught on a hot mic making unflattering comments about both LaVine and Simmons.
One reporter in particular said that LaVine seemed like a “prick.” During the same conversation, Simmons was also roasted for seemingly being “cringe.” You can hear the full conversation picked up by the hot mic at the link here.
Simmons, 30, has returned to the NBA after sitting out all of last season and managed to land a one-year deal from the Kings with an interesting contract setup. But Simmons is learning right away what exactly it is like to be a member of the team, and he seems to be taking it all in stride.
