Bob Myers backs Warriors’ training staff amid criticism

The Golden State Warriors’ training staff has been subjected to a fair bit of criticism over their handling of certain players during the NBA Finals, but general manager Bob Myers is standing by them.

The Warriors’ president of basketball operations said Friday that team doctor Rick Celebrini and the training staff will not be re-evaluated after an injury-filled Finals, stating that the team is “lucky” to have them.

After Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant suffered serious injuries during the Finals, the Warriors’ trainers found themselves under a microscope. No one can blame them for Thompson’s torn ACL, which was just bad luck. Durant’s return to action after a calf injury led to a ruptured Achilles, which brought the staff under some criticism. The Warriors will not be joining with that chorus — especially not publicly, where it just doesn’t make sense to fight that battle.
