Caitlin Clark had a classy response to being left off the roster for the US Olympic team that will play in Paris this summer.

Clark spoke on Sunday for the first time about being snubbed, but showed no frustration or disappointment over her omission. She praised the players that did make it and said being left out gave her a target to aim for in the future.

“I’m excited for the girls that are on the team,” Clark told reporters. “I know that it’s the most competitive team in the world, and I know I could have gone either way of me being on the team, me not being on the team. I’m excited for them, rooting them on to win gold. I was a kid that grew up watching the Olympics. It will be fun to watch them.

“Honestly, no disappointment. I think it just gives you something to work for. It’s a dream. Hopefully I can be there. I think it’s just a little more motivation. Hopefully in four years, I can be there.”

Clark also admitted that the month of rest would be “really nice” after a whirlwind few months. She has been playing essentially non-stop since college basketball season started last November, having gone straight to the WNBA after a run to the national title game.

The reasons for Clark’s omission may be silly, but she ultimately seems perfectly content with the decision. As she suggested, she will have other chances, and the rest might do her some good.
