Death of detective investigating Derrick Rose rape case called likely suicide
The death of an LAPD detective who had been investigating the Derrick Rose rape case was likely a suicide, according to police.
Detective Nadine Hernandez was found in a Whittier home with a single gunshot wound to the chest, which investigators believe was self-inflicted.
“At this time, there are no signs of foul play, and this incident is being investigated as a suicide,” Whittier police said Wednesday, via Richard Winton, Hailey Branson-Potts and Veronica Rocha of the Los Angeles Times. “However, this is an ongoing investigation.”
LAPD sources confirmed that Hernandez had been one of two detectives assigned to the Rose case, and that she frequently dealt in high-profile sex crime investigations.
The trial itself is ongoing, with Rose reportedly feeling rather concerned about it.
