Everyone made same joke about JJ Redick after Dan Hurley turned down Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers were unable to convince Dan Hurley to leave college basketball behind and become their next head coach, and everyone seems to think they know what the next step will be for the franchise.

Hurley on Monday rejected a huge offer from the Lakers, instead opting to pursue a third consecutive national title at UConn. Before the bombshell news broke last week that Hurley was in talks with the Lakers, it seemed like JJ Redick was all but certain to land the job. So what now?

The Lakers may have to go crawling back to Redick, and everyone on social media made the same joke about how awkward that could be.

Reports have been swirling for weeks that Redick is the favorite to become the next head coach of the Lakers. Even Redick seemed to drop a strong hint that the job was his. All of that changed last Thursday when Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers were pushing to hire Hurley, but L.A. is now right back where they started.

With Hurley out of the picture, the Lakers seem likely to choose between Redick and one other candidate.
