One of Kevin Durant’s old teammates is putting his fortune teller’s hat on.

In an interview this week with Jonas Leskas of BasketNews, former NBA guard Edmond Sumner made a bold prediction about Durant’s future. Sumner believes that Durant will finish his playing career in Europe.

“He might pop up, man,” said Sumner, who now plays in Europe himself for Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania. “I like KD. He was a great teammate, a great person. Hopefully, he gets here. He always says when he’s done with the NBA, he wants to come over here and play.

“So, let’s see if that actually happens,” Sumner added. “But I believe it, though, because he just loves ball, like that’s all he cares about.”

The 27-year-old Sumner played with Durant, 35, on the Brooklyn Nets during the 2022-23 season. Though they were only teammates for a few months before Durant went to the Phoenix Suns at the trade deadline, that was likely more than enough time for the topic of future plans to come up.

Of course, it seems pretty far-fetched that we would ever see Durant, a former MVP who is still at the top of his game with 31.0 points per contest this season, head overseas to finish up his career. But Durant has shown an affinity for European basketball before, and Sumner believes the love of the game might just lead Durant to spend his final chapter there.
