Kevin Durant thinks Warriors will get statues, jerseys retired for championships
Kevin Durant made some comments in an interview that indicate the long-term vision he sees for his group of Golden State Warriors.
Durant talked with Yahoo’s Chris Haynes on the “Posted Up with Chris Haynes” podcast about the legacy the Warriors are leaving in the Bay Area. Durant recognizes how passionate Bay Area sports fans are and how much they love their teams and players. Because of that, he believes he and other members of the recent Warriors championship teams will long be viewed fondly by the fans.
Moreover, Durant sees himself and other star players like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green all getting statues and their jerseys retired for what they’ve done for the franchise. So far, the team has won three NBA titles (one before Durant joined the squad). They’re going for a fourth this season.
There have been reports suggesting that Durant will leave after the season because he can become a free agent, which has been a “simmering” issue for the Warriors. Comments like these make it seem less likely that Durant will leave if he wants to continue cementing his legacy. Or maybe he already recognized how fondly he’ll be viewed by the fans, so he may feel comfortable leaving.
