Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce received huge cheers from Celtics fans in their return to Boston on Sunday night.
KG and Pierce were traded to the Brooklyn Nets over the offseason as part of the Celtics’ decision to rebuild, and Sunday marked their first game back in their old home.
Pierce was a lifelong Celtics player who was drafted by the team and starred for them for 15 seasons. He led the team to 10 playoff appearances, one championship, and two losses in the conference finals. KG was traded to Boston from Minnesota prior to the 2007 season. The two teamed up with Ray Allen to win a title for Boston in 2008 in their first season together, giving the C’s their first NBA championship since 1986.
The applause and great reception from the fans was more than appropriate and well deserved for such two important players in recent franchise history.
