Report: Kyrie Irving has genuine interest in reuniting with LeBron James

LeBron James Kyrie Irving

Could we see Kyrie Irving and LeBron James chasing a ring together once again? Apparently Kyrie is interested in that possibility.

Just two years ago, Irving forced his way out of Cleveland because he no longer wanted to operate as James’ second in command. Irving was traded to Boston, where his first season didn’t go so great. He’s now in his second season with the Celtics and learning just how hard it is to lead a team to a championship.

Anthony Davis’ trade demand issued on Monday has led to talk around the league about potential destinations, which have included the Celtics and Lakers. Irving’s presence on the Celtics would prevent them from acquiring Davis due to the “Rose Rule.” If Boston wants Davis, they would have to move Irving, and apparently the Lakers would be on his list.

Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher wrote on Tuesday that Irving has genuine interest in reuniting with LeBron.

From Bucher:

“A source close to the Celtics confirmed that Kyrie Irving is genuinely interested in reuniting with his former Cavaliers teammate. ‘That is for real,’ the source said.”

Irving criticizing his teammates after a January loss to Orlando became an issue and upset some of his teammates. As if that weren’t enough, Irving called LeBron to apologize for not understanding what he was going through. Irving’s conciliatory attitude seems to jibe with this report.

Irving and LeBron playing together on the Lakers seems like a massive longshot, and there isn’t even much reason to think Irving will leave Boston. But this report is significant simply because of what it says about Irving’s growth.
