Luka Doncic expected to miss around two weeks with ankle injury
Luka Doncic suffered an ankle injury in practice on Thursday, and the Dallas Mavericks star is expected to miss some time.
Doncic underwent an MRI on Friday that revealed he suffered a moderate sprain, which is a similar injury to the one that forced him to miss four games last month. Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News was told by a source that Doncic will likely be sidelined for around two weeks.
I'm told that MRI on Doncic revealed the Mavericks' hoped-for best-case scenario: A moderate sprain, similar to the one he suffered in mid-December, causing him to miss four games. One source estimates this time, "two weeks, give or take."

That could mean Doncic will miss the All-Star Game, as the Mavericks will likely want to play it safe since this is his second ankle injury of the year. A two-week timeline would have him out until about the All-Star Game, which will take place on Feb. 16. The Mavericks return from the break with back-to-back road games against the Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks on Feb. 21 and Feb. 22, so it would not be a surprise if Dallas held Doncic out until then.
Doncic is having an outstanding sophomore season with 28.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game. He is a legitimate NBA MVP candidate, so it would be a shame if he can’t partake in the All-Star festivities.
