The Denver Nuggets are off to an underwhelming start to the 2024-25 season, and questions are already being raised about the future of their current core.

The Nuggets have stagnated a bit since their 2023 title, having lost in the Western Conference Semifinals to the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. Between that and the team’s slow start, questions are starting to come up about whether the team might try to overhaul the core that exists around Nikola Jokic.

Forward Michael Porter Jr. certainly buys that narrative, at least based on a recent quote.

“If we don’t win it this year, we all know they might have to break it up,” Porter said, via Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

Porter is not the only one with doubts about the Nuggets. Even Jokic himself seems to believe the team has some notable deficiencies that they can’t exactly cover up.

How the Nuggets would even go about blowing it up is also a fair question. Jamal Murray committed to the team long-term during the summer, and Aaron Gordon did the same recently. They may well be locked in to what they have, for better or worse.
