Paul Pierce admits he had a lot of interest in signing with Clippers

Paul Pierce Wizards

Paul Pierce signing with the Clippers seemed to make too much sense. Pierce is aging but still an effective player, so joining the Clippers and playing in his hometown and for Doc Rivers seemed like a natural fit. Plus, Rivers, who coached Pierce in Boston, was pushing to sign his former player.

In an interview with SI, Pierce admitted that he thought a lot about signing with the Clippers, but timing was an issue.

“I thought a lot about L.A. My wife wanted to stay there and put the kids in school. It would have been an easier transition for me being with Doc, being at home. I think I missed out on that opportunity by waiting to see what Brooklyn was going to do. When they eventually said they weren’t going to make any moves, I missed that boat. That kind of upset me.”

Pierce ended up signing with the Wizards instead, and it looks like he may have made a good choice. The Clippers are 3-2 to start the season, while Washington is 4-1 and playing in the weaker Eastern Conference. His path to a deeper playoff run looks much easier with his current team.
