Timberwolves and Lakers wear warmup shirts honoring Flip Saunders

Last month, Flip Saunders took a leave of absence from the Timberwolves to focus on his health as he was battling Hodgkin’s Lyphoma. On Sunday, Saunders lost his fight with the disease.

As the Timberwolves got their season underway against the Lakers Wednesday, Saunders was on the mind of players from both teams. During pregame warmups, each team wore shooting shirts to honor the former T-wolves coach, general manager, and President of Basketball Operations. The one worn by Minnesota contained the words “WE” and “Flip” along with the team’s logo. Los Angeles wore a shirt with “FLIP” in large letters across the front.

This was a very classy gesture by both teams. Fans will also appreciate the moving tribute Kevin Garnett posted about his former coach on Sunday.
