Travis Kelce appears to make his retirement thoughts very clear

Travis Kelce is 34 years old and has played 11 seasons in the NFL, but he doesn’t seem like a guy who has retirement anywhere on his mind.

Kelce spoke on the stage at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. after his Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime on Sunday to win Super Bowl LVIII. The win gave KC back-to-back championships, but the Chiefs tight end made very clear that he has been targeting winning three Super Bowls in a row.

“The goal’s always been to get three,” Kelce said in an interview with Jim Nantz. “But we couldn’t get here without getting to two. And having that target on our back all year. And I love these guys right here. The men that we just won this thing with … family forever, baby. I can’t be more proud of you guys. And how ’bout it? We get a chance to do it three times in a row!”

The way Kelce spoke made it seem like there is no question that he will be back next season.

Contrarily, his brother Jason is rumored to considering retirement. Jason is two years older at 36 but still playing high-level football, much like his brother.

Julio Rodriguez goes viral for reaction to Chiefs’ Super Bowl win

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Sunday summited football’s Mount Everest for the third time at Super Bowl LVIII. Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez wants to know what the air feels like at the very top.

Rodriguez was one of tens of thousands of fans who watched the Chiefs’ 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers live at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Mariners slugger watched from the stands as red and yellow confetti rained down over the field. Rodriguez took a snapshot of the scene and posted it along with a caption that made his post on X go viral.

“I want to know what that feels like. #starving,” wrote Rodriguez.

Rodriguez finished another All-Star season with the Mariners in his second MLB campaign. The charismatic outfielder batted .275 with 32 home runs and an OPS of .818 last season. Rodriguez also set a record with one of the most incredible hot streaks in MLB history.

Rodriguez’s production was not enough to get the Mariners to the postseason. Seattle just barely missed out with their 88-74 record. Rodriguez did get a taste of playoff action during his rookie year when Seattle made it to the ALDS. However, the Mariners were swept 3-0 by their division rival Houston Astros.

The Mariners have made some moves this offseason, including a trade for a former All-Star infielder.

The Mariners could potentially become a threat in the American League if Rodriguez takes another leap next season and proves how “starving” he really is.

Patrick Mahomes has interesting response to Tom Brady comparisons

Patrick Mahomes entered rarified air with his third Super Bowl win on Sunday, which will only further encourage comparisons with Tom Brady. Mahomes, however, is in no hurry to embrace those comparisons.

The Brady comparisons were brought up on NFL Network’s “GameDay Final,” and Mahomes admitted that he is aware of them. However, he was dismissive of them for one key reason: Brady won their lone head-to-head meeting in the playoffs.

“Yeah I hear it. To me it’s always been tough because Brady beat me in the Super Bowl,” Mahomes said.

Mahomes and Brady did face off in Super Bowl LV, which saw Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers win 31-9. The Chiefs failed to even score a touchdown in that game for the first time since Mahomes became their starting quarterback, while Brady won his seventh title and fifth Super Bowl MVP award. Brady also beat Mahomes in a dramatic overtime game in Kansas City in the 2019 AFC Championship game while still with the New England Patriots.

With Brady retired and not coming back, the two will not meet again. Mahomes is right that Brady got the better of him when it mattered. The Chiefs quarterback has essentially said he has to get to at least seven rings to make it a conversation, and while Sunday’s win brings him closer, he still is not even halfway there. In other words, Mahomes is not buying the narrative right now.

Tyreek Hill shares his reaction to Chiefs winning another Super Bowl without him

Tyreek Hill had to watch as the Kansas City Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls after trading him, but it doesn’t sound like he has any harsh feelings whatsoever.

The Miami Dolphins receiver shared his reaction to X on Sunday after the Chiefs, his ex-team, beat the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LVIII.

“My brothers win it again proud of them boys,” Hill wrote. “Even more motivation for us in Miami.”

The six-time All-Pro Hill also showed love to former teammate Mecole Hardman (who caught the game-winning TD) as well as to quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid.

Hill was a homegrown Chief who was drafted by the team in 2016 and spent the first six seasons of his career in Kansas City. He developed into an elite NFL receiver while there and won Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs in the 2019 season. But in the midst of Hill seeking a bigger contract, Kansas City traded him to Miami before the 2022 campaign, and Hill then signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the Dolphins.

Since trading Hill, the Chiefs have won back-to-back Lombardi Trophies with Mahomes relying more heavily on incumbents like Hardman, Travis Kelce, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling as well as newcomers such as Justin Watson and Rashee Rice. Meanwhile, Hill became the highest-paid wide receiver in the league and really seems to be enjoying life in Miami. It is probably safe to say that both sides have done pretty well since the split.

Kyle Shanahan explains why 49ers took the ball to start overtime

San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was questioned by some for his decision to take the ball at the start of overtime in Super Bowl LVIII, but the coach said the move was far from a spur-of-the-moment decision.

Sunday’s game was the first to be played under the NFL’s new playoff overtime rules, which were changed in the 2022 offseason to ensure that both teams would have a chance to possess the ball. The 49ers won the coin toss, which made Shanahan the first to have to make the key decision of whether to take the ball first or kick off and get the second possession.

Shanahan wanted the ball, and while some questioned the decision, he explained his logic after the game. The 49ers coach told reporters that the decision had been considered beforehand, and he wanted to make sure that his team would get the ball for a hypothetical third possession. That would put them in position to win the game with any score.

Detractors pointed out that getting the ball second would enable an offense to use all four downs if need be, and getting the ball first comes with fewer advantages if both teams are getting a possession anyway. Those are fair arguments, and one could also point out that working with the third possession in mind is overthinking when things have to go a specific way on the first two for it to even matter. The ploy would have probably looked pretty good, however, if San Francisco’s defense had been able to hold the Chiefs to a field goal.

Shanahan has been on the wrong end of some awful playoff collapses during the last ten years or so. Sunday’s loss cannot really be pinned fully on him, but second-guessers will point to this decision as a moment when he should have done something differently.

Fletcher Cox trolls Deebo Samuel after 49ers’ Super Bowl loss

The Philadelphia Eagles were not about to let Deebo Samuel get off lightly.

Samuel and the San Francisco 49ers lost an overtime heartbreaker to the Kansas City Chiefs during Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII. Though the Niners led by double digits in the first half and even scored first in overtime, they gave up a game-winning 75-yard touchdown drive to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on the final possession of the overtime period to lose 25-22.

Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox let Samuel hear it on social media after the game.

“keep the EAGLES OUT CHO MOUTH BOE,” Cox wrote on his Instagram Story, tagging Samuel and including several clown and laughing-face emojis.

“I still got something you ain’t got,” added Cox. “Ya!! I been holding this one in son!!!!! EAD.”

Cox is referencing the fact that he has won a Super Bowl (LII with the Eagles in the 2017 season) while Samuel is still ringless.

Samuel had been going back and forth with Cox and the Eagles in the media for several months now. The former All-Pro Samuel infamously said over the offseason that the Eagles would not have defeated the Niners in last year’s NFC Championship Game if Brock Purdy had not gotten injured. Samuel also targeted a few particular members of Philly’s defense and subsequently went at the Eagles again during Super Bowl media week.

It was not for a lack of trying on Samuel’s part. After being banged up for most of the year, he battled through a hamstring injury and finished with three receptions for 33 yards on Sunday (plus three rushes for eight yards). But with the 49ers failing to get the job done in the end, it was inevitable that they would face the ridicule of their NFC rival Eagles.

CBS executive’s joke nearly backfires during Super Bowl

Super Bowl LVIII logo

CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus just barely avoided a PR nightmare after the conclusion of Super Bowl LVIII.

The Kansas City Chiefs outlasted the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.

But with six seconds left in OT and the game tied at 19, it appeared as though a second overtime might be coming. McManus’ quote from earlier this week had begun to resurface on social media as the clock neared zero during the first overtime.

The CBS executive had joked on Monday that the Super Bowl would be the first ever to go to double overtime. McManus’s quip was meant to make fun of conspiracy theorists who believe the NFL to be scripted.

“The NFL has alerted us that, for the first time ever, we will have a double overtime game (in the Super Bowl),” McManus had joked several days prior to the actual game.

McManus successfully dodged the “scripted” allegations thanks to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and wide receiver Mecole Hardman. Mahomes found Hardman for a touchdown on 1st-and-goal to seal back-to-back Super Bowls for Kansas City.

McManus’ double overtime scenario may not have come to fruition, but the script couldn’t have played out any better for the NFL. Mahomes propelled himself to another stratosphere with his third Super Bowl victory in five seasons. The Chiefs star has seamlessly stepped into the NFL QB1 role previously occupied by Tom Brady for over two decades.

Mahomes went 34/46 for 333 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. The standout performance earned the 28-year-old QB his third Super Bowl MVP trophy as well.

Mecole Hardman has hilarious comment about scoring winning touchdown

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman scored the most important touchdown of his career on Sunday to win Super Bowl LVIII, but he might not remember much of it in the years to come.

Hardman spoke to CBS after catching the game-winning three-yard touchdown pass in overtime to clinch a 25-22 victory. The wide receiver admitted that he completely blacked out after making the catch and barely even realized the game was over.

“I caught that pass and I blacked out,” Hardman said. “I didn’t know what was going on. I see Pat running to me and I was like, ‘Oh, we just won, okay, yeah, let’s celebrate.'”

You certainly could not blame Hardman for that. It has been a remarkable ride for him, as he started the year with the New York Jets. He was traded back to Kansas City in October after finding himself on the fringes, and wound up playing a role for the Chiefs against all odds.

Patrick Mahomes answers whether Chiefs finally have a dynasty

Patrick Mahomes has been hesitant to get too far ahead of himself when it comes to celebrating his on-field success. But he finally made an admission after winning Super Bowl XVIII 25-22 in overtime over the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. on Sunday.

Mahomes was interviewed by CBS’ Tracy Wolfson immediately after his Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl. This was the Chiefs’ third Super Bowl title since 2019, which led Wolfson to ask Mahomes whether the Chiefs have a dynasty.

“Yeah, it’s the start of one,” Mahomes answered. “We’re not done. I know we’re going to celebrate tonight. Celebrate at the parade Wednesday, Kansas City. But we’re not done. We got a young team, we’re going to keep this thing going.”

Mahomes likes to be pretty humble about his and his team’s accomplishments, but it’s hard not to acknowledge that the Chiefs are working on a dynasty now.

Since Mahomes became Kansas City’s starting quarterback in 2018, the team has reached at least the conference championship game in all six seasons. They have reached the Super Bowl four times during that span, winning three.

The Chiefs are the dominant team during this stretch and most definitely a dynasty.

But like Mahomes says, they’re not done. Mahomes always has his eye on building and accomplishing more. And for those who want to compare him to Tom Brady, Mahomes still isn’t even halfway to Brady’s seven Super Bowl rings yet. He’s still got a ways to go.

JJ Watt responds after getting clowned for his funky hair at Super Bowl

JJ Watt with funky hair during Super Bowl broadcast

Former NFL star JJ Watt was not in uniform Sunday during Super Bowl LVIII. But the All-Pro edge rusher still found himself under the spotlight thanks to his hair.

Watt served as an analyst for the Super Bowl clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. Fans watching at home couldn’t help but notice Watt’s hair, which looked straight out of a 2000s time capsule.

Watt got completely clowned on social media for his NSYNC-inspired hairstyle. The 5-time Pro Bowler appeared to share the same hairdresser as Guy Fieri.

Even Green Bay Packers star David Bakhtiari dunked on Watt for his eccentric hair.

The online mockery wasn’t lost on Watt. The former Houston Texans legend responded to the ridicule on X.

“You ever switch up your hair and wonder if anyone will notice?

“They notice,” wrote Watt.

Fans won’t ever forget how dominant JJ Watt was on defense throughout his 12-year NFL career. They likely won’t be forgetting Watt’s Super Bowl hairdo anytime soon either.
