Canelo Alvarez: I will fight GGG right now

Canelo Alvarez

Canelo Alvarez beat Miguel Cotto by unanimous decision at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas Saturday night, and it didn’t take long for the questions about his future to emerge.

In their postfight interview, HBO’s Max Kellerman asked Canelo whether he would fight Gennady Golovkin. Without hesitation, Canelo said he would.

“Before I didn’t want to answer out of respect for my current opponent,” Alvarez said, “but if you want me to fight him right now, I’ll put the gloves on right now and fight him right now.

“He’s a great champion,” Alvarez said of GGG through a translator. “I know him, he’s a great friend — but with all respect I will put the gloves on and fight him now.”

This remarks are in-sync with what Alvarez has said all along. Following his previous win over James Kirkland, Canelo said he was willing to fight anyone. He took care of business against Cotto and is now 46-1-1. Plus, Canelo’s promoter is Oscar De La Hoya, whose mission is to put on the fights of the greatest interest to the fans. Much like the way Oscar was during his career, Canelo is ready to fight anyone, and that’s great news for the fans.
