Canelo Alvarez suspended by NSAC for positive clenbuterol test

Canelo Alvarez

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) is taking some action against Canelo Alvarez.

NSAC announced on Friday that Canelo has been suspended and will have to appear at an April 10 hearing.

Alvarez tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol during two drug tests in February. Alvarez’s team blamed the positive tests on contaminated meat, which is an explanation used in the past for other Golden Boy Promotions Mexican fighters who have tested positive for the substance.

Alvarez is set to face Gennady Golovkin on May 5 in Las Vegas in a rematch of their September fight, which ended in a draw. During a session with the media this week, GGG said he felt Alvarez had cheated before their first fight as well.
