Boxing champ Jermell Charlo charged with making terroristic threat

Jermell Charlo Brian Castano

An arrest warrant has been issued for Jermell Charlo, and the charge stems from the same incident that led to the boxing champion’s twin brother being arrested last month.

Charlo has been charged with making a terroristic threat, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. Police are seeking to arrest him for his alleged role in a Sept. 5 incident that also involved his twin brother, fellow boxer Jermall Charlo.

Jermall, the current WBC middleweight champion, was arrested for felony assault in Texas last month. He was accused of punching and grabbing his cousin in the September incident after the cousin did not get out of a vehicle “quickly enough for [Jermall’s] wife to go with her friends.”

Authorities say that Jermell, the WBC light-middleweight champion, threatened the victim during the alleged assault and told him, “I will kill you with my bare hands.”

Kent Schaffer, the attorney for Jermell and Jermall, told TMZ that the alleged victim is trying to extort the Charlo twins and was “recklessly” riding around on a four-wheeler prior to the incident. Schaffer says Jermall’s wife tried to get the keys from the four-wheeler so the alleged victim would stop, but the man took off and caused her to fall. The lawyer claims Jermall then stepped in to defend his wife. He also denies that Jermell ever made a threat.

The Charlo twins are two of boxing’s biggest stars. Jermall has a record of 32-0 while Jermell is 34-1-1.
