Kell Brook suffers broken eye socket in loss to GGG
Still wondering why Kell Brook’s corner threw in the towel during the fifth round of the fighter’s bout against Gennady Golovkin on Sunday? Look no further than this.
Brook suffered a broken right eye socket during his loss to GGG, X-rays at the hospital confirmed after the fight.
Promoter Eddie Hearn tweeted this photo of an X-ray and said Brook was scheduled for surgery on Monday.

“They [the doctors] have said I have to have an operation, but I need to wait until the swelling goes down. I have broken the eye socket, but they are saying I will make a full recovery,” Brook told Sky Sports.
Brook was a welterweight champion and undefeated prior to facing the larger Golovkin. He says he plans to continue at light middleweight — 154 pounds — which is higher than 147 where he previously had been fighting.
Brook said after his loss he was disappointed his corner threw in the towel, but he also said he had been seeing three or four Golovkins in the ring because his eye was damaged. His corner’s decision to protect him appears to have been a wise one.
