Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade says financial adviser had to call him over money he lost playing cards with teammates

Dwyane Wade

Those card games among teammates can become pretty costly.

Dwyane Wade gave an interview to Men’s Health and talked about financial matters for a “Men’s Wealth” clip. He shared his best purchases, worst purchases, and best money advice he has received. Wade says that the best advice he got was to get rid of all the cars he had purchased because those were just costing him money and depreciating in value. He says he went from 16 different cars to just one.

Asked about the worst money he’s blown, Wade talked about all the money he lost in card games with teammates.

“I’ve lost a lot of money gambling … when you play sports, it’s like a rite of passage that you have to play cards on the plane,” Wade said. “It’s like a team thing, it’s how we connect, how we bond. And I’ve lost a lot of money on the plane just trying to play with my teammates. There’s been times that I wanted out because I was losing so much money. Like my finance adviser called me and said ‘hey, this is something we need to talk about. Do you have a problem?’ So losing money by gambling, to me, is the worst way to lose money. I’m not into it. I’m so glad it’s over.”

It’s finally “over” for Wade because he retired as a player, but it sounds like card games are prevalent among NBA players and probably still posing debt issues for players. One player even faced a death threat over debt he racked up playing a dice game with some players. At least Wade has three championships to show for all the money he lost.

Wade also shared in the interview that providing homes for his parents and paying for education for his kids is the best money he’s spent.

Here’s the interview:

Shaq debuts new haircut complete with lineup after losing bet with Dwyane Wade

Shaq hair lineup

Shaq showed up to work at TNT on Tuesday night sporting a new hairstyle.

Rather than his usual shaved head look, The Big Fella actually had a hairline.

What’s the deal with it? Shaq said he lost a bet with Dwyane Wade about who would win on Monday night between the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks. Wade’s Heat won, so as punishment, Wade told Shaq to grow out his hairline.

“I just lined it up for y’all, so you all could see where my hairline starts. And it looks good and I’m proud to do it and I’m going to keep it all week.”

Shaq got some jokes because his hairline starts so far back on his head. Shaq said he didn’t mind and told the people to send him their best jokes. Here was one from Quentin Richardson:

Dwyane Wade cracks Dunk Contest joke to Derrick Jones Jr.

Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade cracked a Dunk Contest joke to Derrick Jones Jr. on Friday night.

Wade is being honored all weekend in Miami as the Heat retire his jersey on Saturday. They held an event at American Airlines Arena on Friday night called “D. Wade – The Flashback: A L3gacy Celebration Event.”

At the event, Wade was saying hi on stage to several Heat players. When he got to Jones, he joked that he couldn’t talk to the youngster, because people would think he “did it on purpose.”

That’s a reference to what happened in the Dunk Contest, which Jones Jr. won last weekend.

Some of the judges said the contest was supposed to end in a tie between Jones Jr. and Aaron Gordon. Wade was being blamed for not delivering the score he was supposed, and the prevailing conspiracy theory was that he was helping out his ex-teammate.

At least Wade has a sense of humor about it.

Common: Dunk Contest was supposed to end in tie but one judge screwed up

Common Pippen Dwyane Wade

Numerous fans and even the announcers on TNT were outraged over the outcome of Saturday night’s Dunk Contest, with many, including us, feeling like Aaron Gordon got robbed. According to rapper Common, Gordon did get robbed.

Common was one of the five judges on the panel for the Dunk Contest, along with Candace Parker, Scottie Pippen, Chadwick Boseman and Dwyane Wade.

Gordon and Derrick Jones Jr. were the finalists and each got perfect 50s on their first two dunks of the finals. They went to a dunk-off and each got 50s again on their third dunks. Then for their fourth dunks, Jones Jr. received a 48.

Gordon then brought out Tacko Fall and dunked over the 7-foot-5 big man. Somehow he only got a 47 from the judges, who give scores on a 1-10 scale. The low point total seemed unfair.

Common and Parker both gave Gordon a 10, while the other three judges gave him a 9.

Common says they were supposed to give Gordon a 48 to have it tied.

“We thought it was going to be tied. We were like, ‘This is a tie!'” Common told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. “But somebody didn’t do it right. I don’t know who it is.”

Parker also told Shelburne it was supposed to be a tie. If you look at this picture, it sure seems like Common and Pippen thought Wade was the judge who screwed up.

The conspiracy theory about Wade screwing up the final dunk score goes like this: Wade played for the Miami Heat and was teammates with Derrick Jones Jr. and screwed up the final voting to ensure his friend won.

Maybe Wade will eventually tell us what happened, because the public is owed an explanation.

Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle Union introduce new daughter Zaya

Zaya Wade

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union on Tuesday shared with the world that they have a new daughter — Zaya.

Wade went on “Ellen” Tuesday, and Union posted a video on Twitter, to share that their 12-year-old child Zaya is now going by female pronouns and wants to be referred to as “she” and “her.”

Wade talked about his role as a father in supporting his child.

Zaya was born a boy and originally named Zion at birth but recognized that she was part of the LGBTQ+ community and did not identify as a boy. Wade and Union have been active in the LGBTQ+ community ever since, providing support to Zaya as she became more comfortable with her true self. In April last year, they supported Zaya at a pride parade. Zaya still went by Zion then, but has now changed.

In the video posted by Union, Zaya talks about finding her true self. It’s hard not to have respect for someone who sounds so wise and knows who they are at such a young age.

Wade, who played 17 seasons in the NBA, has four children and raises her sister’s son, Dahveon Morris. Zaya is one of two children Wade shares with his ex-wife Siohvaughn (Zaire is the other).

Video: Dwyane Wade posts emotional message reacting to Kobe Bryant’s death

Dwyane Wade

Like many in the NBA, Dwyane Wade was struggling to cope with the loss of Kobe Bryant on Sunday.

Wade posted a brief message to his Instagram Sunday evening in which he admitted that his emotions were “all over the place” as he struggled to keep his composure.

Wade was one of the first in the sports world to react to the news of Bryant’s death. The former Miami Heat guard was a big fan of Bryant and shouted him out in key moments before.

Like many in the NBA world, Wade is shocked that Bryant is gone so soon and working through his emotions after the loss of one of the sport’s biggest icons.

Chris Bosh hilariously edits iconic LeBron James, Dwyane Wade photo

Chris Bosh

One of the most recognizable photos from the Miami Heat’s “Big Three” era does not include all of the members of the Big Three, but Chris Bosh has managed to straighten that out.

On Friday, the NBA on TNT tweeted a reminder that it has been exactly nine years since the famous photo was taken of Dwyane Wade showing off to the crowd while LeBron James was still in the middle of throwing down a thunderous dunk. Bosh is apparently jealous that he wasn’t a part of the big moment, so he figured out a way to change history.

What makes that so perfect is that the Heat were masters of the videobomb when the Big Three were playing together, and Bosh was the ringleader of that. They came up with some truly incredible ways to mess with each other, so it’s nice to see Bosh is keeping it going years later.

There are plenty of photos of Bosh, James and Wade together from when they won their NBA titles. Thanks to Bosh, we now have one more.

Dwyane Wade gets tattoo of ‘Way of Wade’ logo on knee

Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade spent most of his NBA career as one of the few stars in the league without any tattoos, but that’s changed recently.

Wade actually got his first tattoo last summer before his final season in the league. He got his daughter’s name Kaavia James tattooed on his shoulders.

He has since added tattoos this on his left leg. His left thigh has some personal art that includes his quote “My belief is stronger than your doubt” and has some street signs referencing important locations in his life. He appeared to get that tattoo in April.

Then on Monday he shared a photo that showed his new knee tattoo. The tattoo on his knee features Wade’s “Way of Wade” logo that appears on his gear through Chinese brand Li-Ning.

Wade joked when he got the tattoo done that he couldn’t change his logo moving forward.

Last year, Wade announced a lifetime partnership with Li-Ning. Now he has the ink to prove his commitment.

Watch: Dwyane Wade, Pat Riley break out the dance moves

Dwyane Wade really face

Dwyane Wade sure seems to be enjoying retirement, and he’s spending part of it with Pat Riley.

Wade shared a video on his Instagram account Sunday that showed him and Riley dancing in funny Aladdin-like outfits.

Dwyane Wade says he has lifetime invitation to LeBron’s Taco Tuesday

LeBron James Dwyane Wade

LeBron James has shown us in recent months that Taco Tuesday is one of his favorite things in life, and he clearly enjoys sharing it with others. Dwyane Wade has yet to have the pleasure of partaking in Taco Tuesday in the James household, but he says he has gotten the invite.

Wade recently spoke with Khobi Price of the Chicago Sun-Times about retired life, and one of the questions he was asked is if he has ever experienced Taco Tuesday with LeBron. He said he hasn’t, but he knows he is welcome to anytime.

“Yeah. I’ll go one day,” Wade said with a laugh. “I got a standing invitation. I got a lifetime invitation.”

It’s probably safe to assume LeBron’s Taco Tuesday has every topping you could imagine, but Wade says he likes his “simple” with just lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes and cheese.

LeBron recently had a very special guest over for Taco Tuesday, and it makes sense that Wade has also gotten the invite. The duo won two championships together and are best friends. Doing up Taco Tuesday together only makes sense.
