Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey has not signed with WWE; offer still stands

Ronda Rousey

A promo that featured Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair was released earlier this month, leading many to believe it was only a matter of time before the former UFC champion explores a career in pro wrestling. As it turns out, Rousey still hasn’t signed a contract.

Stephanie McMahon, the WWE’s chief brand officer, told TMZ this week that there is an open offer for Rousey.

“Ronda, the offer still stands,” McMahon said. “We’d love to have you in WWE.”

It certainly seemed like a match between Rousey and Flair was being set up when the two cut a promo together, so perhaps there is some sort of hold-up on the business end of things.

Rousey hasn’t said whether she will ever fight again in the UFC, though an Instagram post from January got people talking. McMahon said earlier in the year that Rousey and the WWE would be a match made in heaven, so it’s no surprise she still wants that match to be made.

Ronda Rousey cuts first WWE promo, challenges Charlotte Flair

Ronda Rousey is destined to take part in a WWE event at some point, and it looks as though her debut could be coming sooner rather than later.

A promo featuring Rousey was released this week, and it seems like the goal was to set up a WWE match between the former UFC champion and Charlotte Flair, the daughter of Ric Flair and a former champ herself.

For those of you who don’t follow wrestling, that was Bayley and Becky Lynch — two more former WWE champions — standing next to Flair. Rousey was with MMA training partners Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, who along with Rousey and Shayna Baszler have been referring to themselves as “The Four Horsewomen.”

Rousey hasn’t said whether she will ever fight again in the UFC, though an Instagram post from January got people talking. Stephanie McMahon recently said Rousey and the WWE would be a match made in heaven, and it looks like that match has officially been made.

Dana White: Ronda Rousey getting married on day of Mayweather-McGregor

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey will probably not be paying much attention to the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight, and she has a very good reason for it.

UFC head Dana White said on the Rich Eisen Show that Rousey and Travis Browne are getting married on Saturday, and thus won’t be anywhere near Las Vegas.

White told Eisen that Rousey is “in a good place” and is “really happy,” and that she has not announced her retirement, preferring to focus on her wedding at the moment.

White joked that he had told Rousey he would definitely attend the wedding until he found out the date.

White has said in the past that he thinks Rousey will retire. She certainly could not care less about the premier boxing event happening Saturday.

Dana White: Ronda Rousey will ‘probably’ retire

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey’s last fight came in December 2016 and that may very well be the last one of her mixed martial arts career.

Rousey began her career in 2011 and won her first 12 fights as a professional before suffering a defeat to Holly Holm in 2015. During that time, she captured the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title and became a worldwide star.

Rousey followed the loss to Holm with another defeat in her next match, this time to Amanda Nunes. We haven’t seen Rousey in the octagon since and, as Dana White speculates, we may never again.

“I think people realize she’s probably going to retire,” White told ESPN.

“And the way she is, is what made everybody get behind her,” he continued. “It’s what blew up the women’s divisions. Now she’s going to move on to the next chapter of her life, get married and have kids, do that thing. It’s not sad, it’s the way she wanted it.”

If Rousey does decide to move on to the post-fighting stage of her life, she will leave behind a lasting legacy in mixed martial arts. She dominated the sport for a period of time, became a champion, and played a role in the growth of the women’s side of UFC.

At just 30 years old, Rousey is obviously at an age where she could still compete at a high level, if she chose to. However, on the heels of two consecutive losses, Rousey may decide to leave that portion of her life in the past.

Ronda Rousey says Travis Browne tracked down ‘punks’ who robbed her

Travis Browne

Ronda Rousey returned to her Venice Beach home one day back in January to find that thousands of dollars in possessions had been stolen, but fortunately the thieves were tracked down almost immediately.

The former UFC champion can thank her fiance for that.

In an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” Wednesday, Rousey listed some of the things that were stolen when her house was burglarized.

“Someone had been squatting in my house for like three days, sleeping in my bed,” she explained. “They stole my Olympic rings, stole my guns, all my precious jewelry, every headphone in the house, my credit cards.”

Fortunately, Rousey says the security cameras at her home allowed the perps to be quickly identified. Travis Browne, a fellow UFC fighter who is engaged to Rousey, confronted them.

“We have security cameras, so we looked back at them and saw that there were a bunch of kids with skateboards. There’s a famous skate park right across the street because we’re in Venice,” she said. “My man’s 6-foot-7, 260 and he B-lines it straight to the skateboard park and finds the guys right away. He’s smart enough to not (smacking motion) in the middle of the park. We’d get sued pretty hard. He found the police right then and they caught them. … What little punks.”

Remember what Browne wrote on Twitter several months ago when an MMA fighter mocked Rousey? This was kind of like that, only the stakes were much higher.

Rousey did not say whether all of her belongings were returned, but she probably got a lot of them back if the culprits were caught that quickly. The perks of a good relationship, right?

Ronda Rousey, Travis Browne engaged

Ronda Rousey DNB

Ronda Rousey is off the market — officially.

Rousey got engaged to boyfriend Travis Browne, who proposed to her last week in New Zealand, according to TMZ Sports.

“We are engaged,” Browne told a reporter from SplashNews.com.

Browne gave a detail about the proposal, saying he did it “under a waterfall in New Zealand … felt like the right place to do it.”

Rousey was asked when they may have the wedding. She said she wasn’t sure, but don’t expect a whole elaborate deal from her.

“Soon but I don’t know what goes into planning a wedding,” said Rousey. “I could be really easy. I don’t really want a lot. Don’t really need decorations and flowers, just somewhere to go, something to eat, and people around.”

Rousey and Browne, who is also an MMA fighter, have been together since 2015. They even were dating while Browne was separated but still married to his now ex-wife, which led to some tension.

This will be the first marriage for Rousey, who just turned 30.

Stephanie McMahon would love Ronda Rousey to sign with WWE

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey may never fight in the UFC again after she failed to regain her title with a loss to Amanda Nunes back in December, but that hardly means we have seen the last of her.

Rousey has spoken often about wanting to advance her acting career. And if she decides making a few WWE appearances could help her accomplish that goal, Stephanie McMahon said this week that the door is wide open.

“Everybody’s always asking me about Ronda,” the WWE chief brand officer told ESPN’s Jemele Hill and Michael Smith. “Yes. I know that she loves WWE and we certainly love her. It would be a match made in heaven. Hopefully one day we’ll have that opportunity.”

Spending some time in the WWE would make a lot of sense for Rousey. After she lost to Holly Holm in Nov. 2015, Rousey’s image and self confidence were seemingly shattered. Her entire MMA career centered around being an unstoppable force, and she has now lost two fights. We learned this week that Rousey has been working with a new nutrition specialist, which could mean she is looking to prepare for a UFC fight, acting roles, WWE appearances, or all of the above.

Rousey hasn’t said whether she will ever fight again in the UFC, though this Instagram post from January got people talking. If she does decide to close the book on her MMA career, the WWE could be a natural fit.
