Kenny Smith’s son KJ gets into game for North Carolina during blowout

A familiar name got into the game late in North Carolina’s win over Washington on Sunday.

With 44.4 seconds left and the Tar Heels leading the Huskies 81-56, KJ Smith checked into the game for UNC. KJ is the son of former North Carolina All-American point guard Kenny Smith, known by many for his successful broadcasting career with Turner.

KJ did not record any statistics in the game, though he did play in the final minute.

KJ is a sophomore transfer from Pacific. He played high school ball at both Mater Dei and Oaks Christian in Southern California before going to IMG Academy. He played in 23 games for Pacific in the 2016-17 season, sat out last year, and is able to play this season for UNC.

KJ has scored 21 points and has 7 assists on the season. He has now appeared in 21 games.
