Dabo Swinney’s son Will is the holder for Clemson; Kirk Herbstreit’s sons also on team

Will Swinney

Those watching Monday night’s National Championship Game between Clemson and LSU may have been thrown off by seeing a jersey with the last name “Swinney” on it. Fans know Clemson’s head coach is Dabo Swinney, but fewer fans know that Dabo has two sons who are on the team.

Dabo has three sons, two of whom currently play for Clemson’s football team. Will is a junior and serves as the holder on the kicking team. He is also a wide receiver and has 12 catches for 94 yards on the season. For his career, Will has 21 catches for 139 yards and a touchdown, three rushes for five yards, seven punt returns, and a tackle.

He is No. 22 on the hold for B.T. Potter’s field goal against LSU:

Dabo has another son, Drew, who is a redshirt freshman on the team. Drew caught passes this season against Charlotte and Boston College. He has two catches for 11 yards.

Not only are two of Dabo’s sons on the team, but ESPN broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit also has two sons on the team.

Herbstreit’s twins Tye and Drew are both redshirt freshmen on the team. Jake is a cornerback and Tye is a wide receiver. Both have seen game time in four contests this season but have not recorded any stats.

Kirk Herbstreit said during ESPN’s pregame show that both of his sons have completely bought into everything Dabo tells them about how they’re underdogs.
