Kentucky making Heisman push for RB Benny Snell

Benny Snell may be a long-shot to win the Heisman Trophy over some of college football’s other big stars, but he saw his odds dramatically improve after a record-setting performance in last weekend’s win over Mississippi State. Now, the Wildcats are doing what they can to give him a boost.

On Monday, Kentucky launched a new website called SnellYeah.com that is dedicated to stating Snell’s case for the Heisman Trophy. The school also put out a video in which Snell describes his journey from overlooked recruit to one of the best running backs in the country.

Snell has scored 39 touchdowns in his career at Kentucky, which puts him ahead of Randall Cobb for the most in school history. He rushed for 165 yards and scored four touchdowns against Mississippi State, tying his own record for most rushing scores in a single game at Kentucky. His 540 rushing yards this season rank third in the nation.

When asked if he believes he should be considered for the Heisman after Kentucky’s win on Saturday, Snell was rather modest.

“I’m going to let that just be in the air,” he said, per Jon Hale of the Louisville Courier Journal. “It is what it is. My play speaks for itself. That’s all I can say.”

Kentucky isn’t the only school that has gone all-out to support its running back’s Heisman campaign, but it is going to be hard for anyone to catch Tua Tagovailoa if Alabama continues to thrash opponents. That doesn’t make what Snell is doing at Kentucky any less impressive.
