Lane Kiffin complains about no freedom to tweet after $5,000 fine for questioning referees
Lane Kiffin took a hilarious shot at the Conference USA officials after his Florida Atlantic team lost 36-31 against Marshall on Friday night and has been fined for it.
Kiffin’s Owls were called for nine penalties in the game, many of which had the coach upset. Kiffin did not criticize the refs in his postgame press conference, citing a lack of funds in case of a fine.
#FAU Head Coach @Lane_Kiffin: I'm not going to get into officiating. I'm not going to lose money over it. I'm not sure if (C-USA fines), but I don't have the money.

Despite initially saying that, Kiffin could not resist taking a shot at the officials on Twitter a day later.

Kiffin tagged the conference in his tweet, ensuring they would see it. They fined him $5,000 as a result.
Kiffin said he thought he had sent a funny tweet but the conference obviously didn’t see it the same way. Then Kiffin complained about “no freedom to tweet.”
#FAU Head Coach @Lane_Kiffin on his tweet critiquing the officiating in Owls' loss to #Marshall: Obviously I was not happy with the refs. I sent what I thought was a funny tweet, but I guess they (C-USA) didn't think it was as funny as I did. I guess there's no freedom to tweet.

FAU Owl Access shared details about many of the blown calls in the game, which make it clear Kiffin had a good case for being upset.
