Dueling Reports: Missouri State is either hiring Art Briles or Bobby Petrino

Art Briles

Missouri State is expected to announce its new head football coach on Wednesday morning, but there are competing reports regarding which controversial coach they are hiring.

Football Scoop, which is a proven, reliable source, reports that Missouri State will be hiring Art Briles as their head coach.

Local reporter Chad Plein of KY3/KSPR in Springfield, Missouri reported around the same time as Football Scoop that Missouri State would be hiring Bobby Petrino.

Briles, 64, has not coached in college since being at the center of a scandal at Baylor that saw him fired in 2016. One of the biggest scumbags in the football world, Briles got into trouble with the rules while coaching high school ball in Texas in the fall.

Petrino isn’t too far behind in terms of morals. The 58-year-old walked out on the Falcons midway through his first season with them in 2007, covered up an affair with his mistress in 2012, leading to his firing by Arkansas, and he was fired by Louisville after going 2-8 in 2018.

Both coaches would likely win big at an FCS school like Missouri State.

Regardless of who the coach is, Missouri State appears to be getting a real gem of a human being … who will probably win big.
