Nick Saban irritated by question about AJ McCarron on cover of SI (Video)

Nick-SabanAlabama head coach Nick Saban has not won three of the past four BCS National Championship Games by paying attention to distractions. Anything that is not directly related to football is a distraction, including AJ McCarron’s all-American smile on the latest cover of Sports Illustrated.

On Wednesday, a reporter made the mistake of asking Saban how he thinks McCarron “looks as a cover boy” and if Saban keeps copies of those types of magazines at home.

“First of all, you think I sit around all day looking at magazines or what?” Saban replied. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about. You ask a question every week that I don’t know anything about. You need to come here and walk around and follow me around for like a week.”

Those who cover the Alabama football team know that Saban always refuses to discuss stuff that is printed and said in the media — whether he is lying about having heard it or not.

“I haven’t seen a newspaper today,” Saban added. “I don’t know what’s going on in the world. I watch the weather channel for 10 minutes in the morning while I have a cup of coffee so I know what the weather’s gonna be (to decide) if we practice inside or outside. I really can’t answer your question because I have no knowledge of any of it. I’m happy for AJ and I’m sure he looks great.”

Earlier this year, Saban claimed he had not heard about Bob Stoops’ anti-SEC remarks and did not have time to discuss them. He also stormed out on a press conference when asked questions about former Tide star DJ Fluker. The reporter knew what he was getting himself into, and it seems like everyone got a kick out of it. Except, well, Saban.

Here’s the SI cover Saban was asked about, for those of you who haven’t seen it:
