Steve Spurrier reportedly to retire effective immediately
South Carolina fell to LSU 45-24 on Saturday in a game that was relocated to Louisiana due to the flooding in South Carolina from Hurricane Joaquin. It looks as though that will be the last time Steve Spurrier will patrol the sideline as head coach of the Gamecocks.

Spurrier arrived in South Carolina prior to the 2005 season and led the school to an 86-49 record, including a 5-4 mark in bowl games. From 2011 through 2013, South Carolina won 11 games each season and finished in the top 10 of the AP poll all three years.
Prior to his 11 seasons at South Carolina, Spurrier coached the Redskins for two seasons, compiling a 12-20 record. However, it was during his 12 seasons at the University of Florida when Spurrier became a household name. Spurrier, who also won a Heisman Trophy for the Gators as a player, led the Gators to the national championship after the 1996 season and nine double-digit win seasons. His teams also went on a run of five SEC championships in six years.
After finishing with just seven wins last season, South Carolina is off to a 2-4 start this season and winless in conference play.
