Tennessee State LB Christion Abercrombie ‘improving daily’
There is finally some positive news to share regarding Christion Abercrombie’s medical condition.
Abercrombie, a sophomore linebacker for Tennessee State, suffered a head injury late in the second quarter of the team’s game at Vanderbilt on Saturday. He collapsed after exiting the game and was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center for emergency surgery. In the ensuing hours and days, he was listed as being in critical condition, said to still not be verbally responsive, and his family was asking for prayers.
On Tuesday night, the Nashville Tennesseean’s Mike Organ shared the best news yet about Abercrombie.
Abercrombie’s uncle said at a prayer vigil on campus Tuesday that his nephew was “improving daily.”
The school’s president gave even more details.
“First (Abercrombie) made it through the surgery,” president Glenda Glover said, via The Tennesseean. “And then he made it through Saturday night. Then he made it through the 24 hours. And then through 48 hours. So as each day (goes by) he continues to show just small signs of improvement. He’s fighting. Christion is a fighter and each day when we see him raise his hand or do do any little thing that shows a sign of improvement we’re grateful.”
Abercrombie’s family is planning a second prayer vigil for the linebacker that will take place at his high school in Atlanta.
