Texas DE expected to play in bowl game despite gruesome hand injury

Texas defensive lineman Breckyn Hager suffered what appears to be a gruesome hand injury over the weekend, but it is not expected to force the senior to miss the Sugar Bowl against Georgia on New Year’s Day.

On Tuesday, Texas announced that Hager is expected to be ready for the Sugar Bowl despite cutting his hand in an “accident” following the Big 12 championship game on Saturday. Hager appeared to share a photo of his mangled hand on Instagram over the weekend and later deleted the post. It’s so gruesome that we’re not going to feature it, but you can see it here.

It’s unclear how Hager suffered such a nasty injury, but Texas obviously isn’t going to share any details. That fact that he deleted the Instagram post makes the situation even more bizarre.

In any event, Texas could use Hager as they try to pull off an upset over Georgia. He has appeared in all 13 games for the Longhorns this year and has 2.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss.
