Amari Cooper gets positive news on knee injury after undergoing MRI

Amari Cooper has dealt with numerous injuries this season and suffered yet another in Thursday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, but fortunately it sounds like he avoided the worst-case scenario yet again.

Cooper underwent an MRI on his injured left knee Friday, and ESPN’s Todd Archer reports that it revealed no structural damage. The star receiver now has extra time to rest up before next week’s game against the Chicago Bears, though he was limping and appeared to be in a lot of pain after Thursday’s game.

While it’s certainly good news that Cooper avoided structural damage, he’s likely dealing with a significant bruise. He took a helmet directly to the left knee.

Cooper battled through a foot injury during the preseason and has hurt his quad, ankle and now knee at different points during the season, but he somehow keeps suiting up. He has 64 catches for 971 yards and seven touchdowns on the year.

The Cowboys are now 6-6 after losing to Buffalo, but they are still in first in the NFC East despite all the coaching drama surrounding the team. Cooper has been one of their most valuable players on offense, so they can’t afford to be without him going forward. Given his track record, it would be a surprise if he missed next week’s game.
