Bears discipline Tyrique Stevenson over brutal Hail Mary blunder

Noah Brown catches a Hail Mary touchdown from Jayden Daniels

The Chicago Bears have decided on a punishment for Tyrique Stevenson in the wake of the embarrassing mistake the cornerback made in Week 8.

Stevenson has started every game for the Bears this season, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the former second-round pick will be on the bench at the beginning of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. Stevenson is expected to be active and rotate with Terell Smith.

Rapoport was told the demotion for Stevenson will likely only apply to this week’s game.

The Washington Commanders were trailing the Bears 15-12 last week when Jayden Daniels completed a 52-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to Noah Brown for the walk-off win. Following the miraculous finish, a video surfaced that showed Stevenson was off to the side taunting Commanders fans on the final play well after the ball had been snapped.

Stevenson took to social media to apologize after the game. He also addressed the team and held himself accountable for the blunder.

The Bears fell to 4-3 with the loss to Washington. They have gotten off to a strong start this season and obviously should be 5-2. Stevenson seems to know he lost focus at the worst possible time, and it will cost him some playing time on Sunday.
