Report: Celtics players wanted Joel Embiid to ‘man up’ after all trash talking
Joel Embiid eventually gave the Boston Celtics credit for dominating his Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference semis, but that was not until after he walked off the court without shaking hands following Game 5. Not surprisingly, his worthy adversaries were not pleased with the stunt.
After the final horn sounded in Boston’s 114-112 win on Wednesday, Embiid walked off the court and straight to the locker room. Ben Rohrbach of Yahoo Sports overheard some Celtics players criticizing Embiid for it, and one player said the All-Star center should “man up” after all the trash talking he did.
In the locker room after the game, several Celtics sounded annoyed by Embiid walking off the floor without paying respect, especially after he talked so much trash. “At least man up,” one player said.https://t.co/pPMIfE81kT

Rohrbach noted that the remarks from the Boston side came before Embiid praised the Celtics for their performance.
“It’s hard because I feel we had a pretty good chance of beating them but we got to give them a lot of respect,” Embiid eventually told reporters. “They played well, they played well together, they made some tough shots during the series and they defended us pretty well too so we got to give them a lot of credit. It sucks but you got to learn from it and come back next year and do better.”
Embiid was at the center of some scuffles during the series and always has plenty to say, so you can understand why Celtics players felt the professional thing to do would be to shake hands after a hard-fought battle. Still just 24, Embiid has plenty to learn. He should get plenty of playoff experience in the coming years to help with that.
