The New England Patriots will have a big decision to make with Bill Belichick in the coming weeks, and it sounds like there are a couple of teams that are watching the situation closely.

There are at least two teams that have discussed the possibility of pursuing Belichick as a head coach this offseason, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports. One of those teams is the Los Angeles Chargers, who are viewed as a potential Belichick suitor now that they have moved on from Brandon Staley. Anderson said she will reveal the other team “when the time is right.”

Another team that has been linked to Belichick is the Carolina Panthers. They are in search of a new head coach after they fired Frank Reich in Reich’s first season on the job. David Tepper has deep pockets and may want to make a big splash, but there are questions about whether Belichick would want to work for someone as hands-on as the Panthers owner.

Carolina’s chances of landing a coach like Belichick may have taken an even bigger hit with the behavior Tepper displayed during the team’s latest loss.

Of course, there is no guarantee that Belichick will become available. The 71-year-old is under contract with the Patriots through at least 2024, and they would likely want draft-pick compensation if he goes to another team. There is also at least one potential scenario where Belichick could return to New England next season.
