Chiefs reportedly shopped Tyreek Hill in trade talks

Tyreek Hill is facing an uncertain future as he is under investigation for an alleged battery incident, and the Kansas City Chiefs may have actually been open to parting ways with him before news of his latest off-field issue surfaced.

Jay Glazer of The Athletic said in his mailbag Thursday that there were questions about whether the Chiefs would be able to re-sign Hill before the battery allegations. He said Hill’s name was even mentioned in trade talks.

“I heard some rumblings at the start of free agency that his name was being thrown about in trade talks, but at the time thought it had to do with his contract more than anything else,” Glazer wrote. “I think this one will take a little while to play out.”

A report earlier this month claimed the Chiefs were discussing a record-setting contract extension with Hill, but those negotiations have obviously been put on hold. While Hill is one of the most dynamic play-makers in football, he slipped to the fifth round of the 2016 draft after he was kicked off the Oklahoma State football team. Hill was accused of punching and choking his fiancee, Cyrstal Espinal, while she was pregnant with the couple’s child.

The latest incident involving Hill stems from his and Espinal’s 3-year-old son reportedly ending up with a broken arm in a battery incident. It seems likely that Hill will face disciplinary action from the NFL.
