Cooper Rush benched by Cowboys in favor of Trey Lance

The struggling Dallas Cowboys made a quarterback change late in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cowboys benched Cooper Rush with about three minutes left in the third Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tx. Trey Lance took over for Rush with the Cowboys trailing 28-6.

While it was not all his fault, Rush was giving the Cowboys nothing. He was just 13/23 for 45 yards at the time of his benching. Dallas had absolutely nothing to lose by seeing if Lance could offer them more. It is also a move that could make Jerry Jones happy.

Lance, the former No. 3 overall pick, had yet to suit up for the Cowboys until Sunday, when Dak Prescott’s injury forced the Cowboys to turn to Rush. The team might want to see what Lance can provide, as Dak Prescott will not be back anytime soon. Lance, for his part, thinks he is ready to successfully run the offense.
