Report: Dontrelle Inman chooses to sign with Chargers
Dontrelle Inman is returning to the Chargers organization, according to a report.
Inman requested his release from the New England Patriots following Josh Gordon’s reinstatement and the emergence of other wide receivers. Inman took a visit with the Detroit Lions, who signed Jordan Lasley instead. He also visited the New York Jets.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport said on Tuesday that Inman has chosen to sign with the Chargers.
A reunion: Free agent WR Dontrelle Inman is signing back with the LA #Chargers, source said. They made an offer that stood as he took visits. The #Jets made an offer, too, but the pull QB Philip Rivers played a big part. So he’s back.

Inman, 30, went undrafted out of college and ended up in the CFL for a few seasons. He signed with the Chargers in early 2014, played with them for 3.5 seasons before being traded to the Bears, and he played for the Colts last year. Rapoport suggested that playing with Philip Rivers had an appeal to Inman.
Inman had 28 catches for 304 yards and three touchdowns last season. Mike Williams, Travis Benjamin and Keenan Allen are the Chargers’ top three receivers. Allen is currently dealing with an ankle injury.
