Eagles had worst trick play attempt vs. Commanders on ‘Thursday Night Football’

Jalen Hurts getting brought down

The Philadelphia Eagles pulled one straight out of the playbook of Jim Zorn on Thursday night.

In the second quarter of their divisional game against the Washington Commanders, the Eagles decided to bust out one of the sorriest trick plays that you will ever see. Philly quarterback Jalen Hurts took the snap and handed it off to Saquon Barkley, who then pitched it to Devonta Smith, who then pitched it back to Hurts. The Commanders definitely were not fooled by all the smoke and mirrors though, and Hurts was immediately sacked by Washington linebacker Frankie Luvu upon receiving the final pitch.

Here is the video.

While it looked like receiver AJ Brown was going deep on the play, the Eagles somehow managed to keep going further and further backwards before finally getting brought down for a loss of 13 yards. That was horrible.

Philadelphia couldn’t really get anything going on offense otherwise, scoring just three points in the first half on a modest 174 yards of total offense. But we may have to go all the way back to last season for the last time that a trick play was as disastrous as that one.
