Jaguars find no takers in Leonard Fournette trade

Leonard Fournette

The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to trade Leonard Fournette, but they’re not having much luck.

Jacksonville tried to trade Fournette to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the second day of the draft, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports. Nothing materialized, and the Bucs drafted a running back instead.

Fournette, who was taken No. 4 overall in 2017, is entering his fourth season in the league. His fifth-year option for $10.1 million is coming up and the Jags need to decide by May 4 whether they will pick it up. If the Jags decline it, this would be Fournette’s final season under contract with them, and it would be at a reasonable $4.16 million.

Many teams are likely figuring there is no need to trade for Fournette, who has had character concerns in Jacksonville, when they can just draft a running back instead. 15 running backs were taken in the draft. The Bucs took two.
