JJ Watt reportedly expected to return for playoffs

JJ Watt

J.J. Watt’s season-ending injury isn’t quite season-ending after all.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Watt is close to being able to return to practice after tearing his pectoral muscle in Week 8. He is expected to return to the playoffs, and if the Texans need to win to clinch a spot in Week 17, it is possible he returns then instead.

In other words, as long as the Texans keep playing beyond the regular season, Watt will find his way back. That’s huge news and a big surprise, even if Watt hinted that it would happen earlier in the week. There seemed to be little question that his season was over in late October when the injury occurred.

Watt’s return will be a huge boost to Houston’s pass rush provided he’s anywhere near full strength. Only six teams have fewer sacks than the Texans do this season, and that’s at least partly down to the fact that Watt hasn’t played in two months. He should make Houston more dangerous for any potential playoff foe.
