JJ Watt was among those who drew attention to what he called “one of the greatest football plays I’ve ever seen” from Week 1.
Watt reposted video of Washington Commanders special teams player Tyler Owens putting in a remarkable effort during Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Owens takes on and beats three Eagles blockers and gets all the way downfield to tackle punt returner Britain Covey during the first half.
The effort did not go unnoticed, with Watt raving about Owens’ efforts.
Not just special teams.

This is legitimately one of the greatest football plays I’ve ever seen.
It doesn’t get much better than that right there. Every coach in America will be showing this rep to their team this week. https://t.co/pqFh5ybuVe
“Every coach in America will be showing this rep to their team this week,” Watt wrote.
With the exception of return men, special teams players tend to go unnoticed for their contributions, though some occasionally put in an extraordinary effort to gain notice. Owens certainly falls into that category here.
Owens, a safety, played collegiately for Texas and Texas Tech. He entered the league in 2024 as an undrafted free agent and has spent his entire career to date with Washington.
