Joe Flacco to be traded from Ravens to Broncos

Joe Flacco

The Denver Broncos are still in search of a quarterback who can help lead them to another Super Bowl, and they are hoping Joe Flacco will be that guy in 2019.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Broncos have agreed to a deal in principle to acquire Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens. The trade cannot be officially processed until the new league year begins on March 13.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Baltimore will receive a mid-round draft pick.

The Ravens are ready to turn their franchise over to 2018 first-round pick Lamar Jackson, and the Broncos obviously feel that Case Keenum cannot take them where they want to go. Denver would have to eat $10 million if they cut or trade Keenum this offseason, so it will be interesting to see if they decide to keep him as a backup for Flacco.

Flacco lost his job to Jackson in 2018 because of a hip injury and mediocre play, but he is still just 34 and has championship experience. He finished last season with 2,465 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has posted a passer rating of 84.2 or less in each of the past four seasons. John Elway and the Broncos are obviously hoping for much better under their new coaching staff.
