Johnny Manziel thanks Derek Carr for offering to help him

Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel has received countless offers from current and former NFL players who want help him out, and the latest came from a quarterback who was drafted 14 spots behind him in the 2014 draft.

Speaking with Peter King of The MMQB recently, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said he would love to see Manziel get another shot in the NFL.

“What’s crazy is, you know, I spent a lot of time around him. He’s such a good dude,” Carr said. “I obviously wish him the best, you know I hope that … hopefully one day he’ll reach out, [I’d] be able to talk to him and be a friend to him.”

King then asked Carr directly if he would like to help Manziel.

“Absolutely, man,” Carr said. “Because he’s so talented, so I understand why he was drafted where he was. He could throw, could run, a dynamic athlete, dynamic player. Obviously he just had a little trouble. He’s still young though, so hopefully he’ll get another chance someday and he’ll be alright.”

Manziel appreciated the offer. In fact, he tweeted that he will take Carr up on it.

Resources are not the problem for Manziel. It seems absurd that he was taken at No. 22 overall and Carr slipped to the second round when you look at the breakout season the Raiders quarterback is having, but Carr certainly isn’t trying to rub Manziel’s nose in it.

At the end of the day, Manziel needs to help himself. If he wanted to make an NFL comeback, he’d be spending most of his time working out rather than paying for extravagant parties like this. Having support from people like Carr is nice, but Manziel returning to the NFL is still a long shot.
