Las Vegas predicting Browns will miss playoffs in 2019?

Baker Mayfield

No team will enter the 2019 NFL season with more hype surrounding it than the Cleveland Browns, but at least one sportsbook in Las Vegas seems to think expectations have gotten a bit out of hand.

The SuperBook at the Westgate Las Vegas released odds on Sunday for all 32 NFL teams’ chances of making the playoffs next season, and their oddsmakers feel the Browns have a better chance of missing the postseason than making it. The Browns are listed at -120 to miss the playoffs, meaning you would have to risk $120 to win $100 if you wanted to wager that their season will end after 16 games.

“It’s a really tough division,” SuperBook director John Murray told ESPN’s Ben Fawkes. “I think people are making a mistake if they write the Steelers off, the Ravens should be solid again and the Bengals can’t help but be better with Marvin Lewis gone.”

The Browns haven’t made the playoffs since 2002, so the SuperBook could be siding with history and waiting for them to actually prove themselves. While they made some huge additions this offseason, most notably acquiring Odell Beckham Jr., they’re still coming off a 7-8-1 season and have plenty of work to do under a new head coach.

Interestingly enough, the Browns were listed earlier in the offseason as having the best odds to win the AFC North. The biggest thing that could stand in their way is a sophomore slump from Baker Mayfield, but they certainly have the pieces in place to break their playoff drought.
