Melvin Gordon apparently benched after fumbling twice

Melvin Gordon’s difficult season got worse on Sunday after apparently being benched, at least temporarily, following two fumbles.

Gordon fumbled on the Chargers’ second drive at the end of the first quarter on a run play. He did so again on the very first play from scrimmage in the third quarter after catching a pass from Philip Rivers, and that appeared to be the last straw for coach Anthony Lynn.

Gordon was having a modest day before the second fumble, with six carries for 23 yards to go with two catches for 11 yards.

It has been a brutal season for the running back. He started it with a holdout that ended with him not getting the new deal he wanted, and he seemingly regretted doing it in the first place. This isn’t the first time fumble problems have popped up for him either. All of it adds up to a season where he’s rushed for over 500 yards and five touchdowns in half a season’s worth of games, but his stock has fallen dramatically.
