Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is not expected to play in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, and it sounds like there is at least a chance he may not return at all this season.
Lawrence has a “significant” AC joint sprain in his left shoulder, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. While the injury is to Lawrence’s non-throwing shoulder, it can still make throwing difficult.
Though Lawrence is currently planning to rest and rehab the injury, Rapoport was told surgery is still a possibility. At the very least, Lawrence will likely be limited for the next several weeks.
Lawrence hurt his shoulder on a hard hit in the second quarter of Jacksonville’s 28-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week. He was able to remain in the game, but he has since dealt with significant discomfort.
The Jaguars fell to 2-7 with their loss to the Eagles. Lawrence has thrown for 2,004 yards, 11 touchdowns and 6 interceptions during what has been a disappointing season.
Lawrence signed a massive 5-year, $275 million extension with the Jaguars during the offseason. The team has invested heavily in him, so it makes sense that they are thinking about the shoulder injury from a long-term perspective. That is likely why surgery has not been ruled out.
