The Carolina Panthers made a somewhat surprising announcement regarding their starting quarterback for Week 10.

The Panthers are sticking with Bryce Young for their game against the New York Giants, coach Dave Canales said Wednesday. Canales suggested the team likes the progress it has seen from Young, and want to give him another week to continue building on it.

Young got his starting job back for Week 8 after Andy Dalton suffered a thumb injury. He kept it for Week 9, with Canales saying at the time the team was being cautious with Dalton. By now, however, the Panthers are clearly starting Young because they are encouraged by what they have seen.

Young went 24/37 for 224 yards in Week 8 before going 16/26 for 171 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a Week 9 win over New Orleans. He will have a chance to demonstrate further progress in Munich against the Giants, who have the same 2-7 record as Carolina does.

Young’s job status may still be week-to-week at this point. However, it stands to reason that as long as he continues to give the Panthers a chance, he might keep playing ahead of Dalton.
